فن آوري ســيماس در ریزپردازنده ها ، میکرو کنترلرها ، رم های استاتيک و ديگر مدارهای با منتطق دیجیتال مورد استفاده قرار ميگيرد. فن آوري سيماس همچنين براي طيف گسترده اي از مدارهاي آنالوگ از جمله سنسورهای تصويری ، مبدل داده ها و مدارهای مجتمع فرستنده و گيرنده ، براي بسياري از انواع وسایل ارتباطات استفاده می شود. فرانک ونلاس در سال 1967 ، الگوی سیماس را ارائه داد.
سيماس گاهی نیز به عنوان نیمه هادی-اکسید-فلز تکمیلی-تقارن ( cos-mos ) به کار گرفته می شود. عبارت 'تکميلي - تقارن' اشاره به اين واقعيت است که نوعي سبک طراحي ديجيتال با استفاده از فن آوری سیماس به صورت تکمیلی و متقارن برای هر دو نوع نیمه هادی نوع n و نیمه هادی نوع p مورد استفاده قرار می گیرد تا توابع منطقی را با استفاده از اثر میدان ترانزیستور تولید کند.
